Leonie has been a professional artist since the late 1980s, when she decided to change direction and pursue a painting career. Her extraordinary skill in capturing the beauty, tragedy and sometimes humour of Australia’s crumbling outback communities was met immediately with a hugely enthusiastic response, not only from art lovers but from connoisseurs, a response to her work which remains undiminished to this day.

Painting regularly with other Blue Mountains artists has widened her choice of subject matter and prompted her to explore and experiment with various styles of painting. But, happily for her many fans, that initial connection to our rural communities remains and still constitutes a significant part of her ongoing work.

She has an enviable collection of awards accumulated over the years, the last being in 2009, and her work may be found in national and international private and corporate collections.

Leonie was a founding member of the Gallery Blackheath in 2001 and is delighted to be invited to return in 2010.
